Search Queries
A name or location entered into a search tool is delivered directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Butler County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Messages sent by email are kept as needed to prepare a response. They remain within the operating team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the server may automatically receive routine technical information about that visit:
- The device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The referring website, when available
- The date and time of each page request
Cookies and Analytics
Small files called cookies may be placed on a visitor's device. They help measure which Butler County pages receive traffic and where visits end. Its content identifies official sources for Butler County, Kentucky records, including local courts, law-enforcement custodians, the Kentucky State Police Criminal Identification and Records Branch, and the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report or a third party's criminal-history file. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes that appear on the website. Their privacy policies, rather than this policy, govern information submitted through those tools. Each partner controls its own retention, processing, and disclosure practices. Visitors should review those terms before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Butler County sheriff, Kentucky courts, state agencies, legal-aid organizations, and outside search tools. Once a visitor follows one of those links, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to follow activity across websites and select targeted ads. That processing takes place through the provider's systems, not ours.

The Kentucky Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, governs access to qualifying public-agency records; it is not a private-site data request law. KRS Chapter 17 separately governs Kentucky criminal-identification functions and public dissemination through the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry.
